Just OK! Not The Best Eatery.
I have tried several Ghanaian restaurants in the region including the home-based restaurants and I must say Akosombo is just about average. The space is what bothered me though. Floors, walls, ceiling, furniture all need work. Lighting is poor. There is no ambience in the space. The Service? Well, I can handle delays but not delivering an order is a shame. Akosombo needs to define whether it is a full service restaurant, a buffet-style restaurant, or both. They need to relocate the buffet station away from the "bathrooms". And the "bathrooms" should be kept clean. In all, it was an adventure in DC. By the way, you definitely need the street address to find the place. The building itself looked condemned, may be it is! Who know’s this is DC anything goes. Bon appétit !

Delicious!
An awesome dining experience for this side of the Atlantic!! I have visited West Africa only once and loved the food. I was referred to this restaurant from a native of Ghana. So, I trusted that he knew what authentic cuisine would be like. The food was absolutely fresh and delicious. The spices were well blended and savory. I will definitely return and make it a regular stop. I will also refer the restaurant to all of my friends and family. I would also add that the portions are generous. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere relaxed. Five stars for food quality and service. Don't let the humble decor fool you...the Chef knows what he/she is doing!

A taste of Africa
The food and service was great at Akosombo. There are no menus but you will select from a buffet as they fill your plate. Do not expect any thrills with the building or decorations but be prepared for a selection straight out of Ghana. The cost is around $10.00 per plate (cash) with generous portions. The location is not well marked but does have a small sign above the door. We spoke with some of the business locals who did not know this restaurant was just down the block. This is an African style mom and pop establishment and well worth your time if you are looking to experience West African food and culture.

This is the most authentic Ghanaian restaurant in D.C. You won't be dissapointed with the food at all, it is well prepared and fabulous. You won't be dissapointed!
