What happened
I have been eating from Al's for ten years the pizza has been pretty good but the last three times it was not prepared properly and last time it was cold and I live within blocks of it. When I called to bring this up they are rude and hung up on me,too bad the original Al is not there the new Al will no longer get my money.

Pass on this place
The quality here is poor. There are much better places in town. Has no advantage over chains, least of all being "gourmet."

Als Pizza #1 Fan
Als is the ONLY place in Capitol Hill I will order pizza for the past 3 years. It is absolutely delicious, they use great quality kosher cheeses and ingredients...and there is something special in the red sauce. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. The Rafeal pizza is my favorite with broccoli and zuccini, you really feel like you're eating a complete meal. Friendly staff, dependable delivery, never had a problem, order once a week.

Where's the Cheese?
We've lived nearby for decades and have tried their pizza off-and-on over the years. We call ahead and always order extra cheese. They always charge for it but we never get anything close to extra cheese. We like to support neighborhood places, but there are much better pizza places in DC.

Al's is not what it used to be
I can't explain why Al's has deteriorated so much over the past few years. It used to live up to the "gourmet" its name, but for quite some time the pizza has become really pretty poor. The wings are very dry and disappointing, too. We live a few blocks away, but we've stopped ordering from Al's. Nothing lasts forever!

Not recommended
The first time we ordered from Al's the pizza the food and delivery was OK. The second time we ordered from them, they completely messed up the order, the pizza wasn't cooked in the middle and they didn't deliver an additional sandwich we ordered. To top it off they were so rude on the phone.

Worth Your While
After reading the previous review, I was a bit cautious in ordering pizza. I can't speak to their experience, but I can say that our pizza was great...crisp crust, and the meatballs are quite flavorful. We had the special, 16" pizza with 15 wings for $19.95, and the wings were great. We ordered them without sauce. Originally from NYC, I consider myself a pizza snob...so far, this is my favorite!
