A lot of potential, but falls short of good.

I've gone a couple of times and the best part each time has been the beer. The food isn't terrible or amazing. I've had the BLT (nice thick bacon, and fresh produce), fries (better than average), mac and cheese (don't believe the hype), and grilled cheese (not bad at all...mmmm bacon). The scene on weekdays is pretty laid back, with TVs set on ESPN and uninteresting background music playing. This place has potential to be a nice change from the anonymous bars on 18th st, but falls short. How about some decent music other than standard sports bar dreck? How about playing something other than sports? Old or indie movie night maybe? I dunno, just something to stand out from the mediocre rest of the strip. Believe me, the locals would love it.

    Great neighborhood spot

I've been to The Black Squirrel twice now, and I'm left very pleased both times. The vibe of the place is warm and friendly, which isn't always the case in Adams Morgan. The most impressive thing going at this place is the extensive beer menu. They've got loads of Belgium beers on tap, and 60 or so beers by the bottle. The food isn't too shabby either, although, I can't say I've had everything. I did try the mussels, and they were great. My friends have been happy to the food, too. Overall, I think this place is just what Adams Morgan needed. Something for the neighborhood.
