    The genuine article

This is an authentic Irish bar with a real personality. I went there for a night with some friends and we had a blast. The staff were fantastic, owner was very charming and the atmosphere was what you get in a pub in Ireland. As well as the food and drink being top notch, they had some sodas and snacks you can only get in Ireland. I know that I will go back there although I live a considerable distance away. My friends were a mix of Irish and American and they really enjoyed the evening. One additional point is the fact that the furniture came from Ireland and itscores points for staying true to the name over the door; they have many artifacts linked to "The Liberator" and it is worth enquiring about them when you are there. All in all, the best place for a pint in the region!

    An Irish bar?

The establishment is owned by a couple of gentlemen from Ireland, and the decor probably is from there as well, but that's where the comparison ends. Rather abruptly I'm afraid. International and Eclectic definitely match this restaurant more accurately. The menu is very light on traditional Irish dishes. Only one or two items basically, and after that it is very cosmopolitan. In addition to the menu not being very Irish, the fact that it is a la carte is not a good value. It probably wont bankrupt you, but the amount of food presented is simply not worth what you will end up paying for it. Overall my family and I were not at all impressed. I say, leave this one for the tourists.

    Finally, a real Irish bar

This place is the only Irish bar in Alexandria that actually resembles a respectable Irish pub/restaurant. It avoids the meathead crowd that typically poisons the American impression of Irish establishments. Though somewhat pricier than its peers, the fare is much more sophisticated. The service (provided in part by people of direct Irish extraction) and atmosphere are refreshingly upscale. And of course, for those of you who have this litmus test: they certainly put the time into pouring the perfect pint of Guinness.
