I was here with my kids on a Sunday. My son liked the grilled cheese but my daughter didn't like the mac + cheese - and she usually likes everything. I tasted it and I could understand why my daughter didn't finish her meal. I ordered the Salmon Caesar and returned it because it included bacon. The waitress said the bacon was listed in the menu but it's not and you can look on their online menu. She returned several minutes later with a very small piece of salmon. The food is mediocre, at best, and the only reason to go here is to watch a ballgame as they have a good draft beer menu. As I left (and after spending my money), I politely asked for change and she gave me ones and said the bartender told her that they don't have any change. I asked, "You mean to tell me you don't have any coins in the whole restaurant? She said, "no." I was a waiter and I've never encountered such negative attitudes before.

This place is so much better than when it opened, and definitely an improvement over the myriad of places that have occupied this space previously. I think the food is great. The veggie flat bread and chicken salad sandwiches are my favorite items on the menu. I'm just sad they took the beer out of the cheese fondue. The service is spotty at best. When the bartender is waiting tables it goes fairly well, but the regular servers seem to be lacking in the intelligence department. But overall, I'm a big fan and will keep going back.

I eat and drink at this restaurant fairly regularly and it can be hit or miss with the food and service. If you stick to the burgers and traditional bar food you are okay. The prices are reasonable for DC. The service is spotty depending on who you get. I normally will eat at the bar b/c I get better service there. The atmosphere is great! Very relaxed and congenial. The bartenders are very friendly and remember your drink. A traditional neighborhood watering hole. The specials are good and the sponsored events are fun. I hope they work out the kinks with servers and the menu.

Loved it! The service was the best we have experienced in a long long time! Laughed so hard at the bar! Music on Thursday night was awesome too! Went back on Saturday night and service again was amazing with Matt at the bar, it couldn't get any better!

the place is comfortable, food is decent, good bar area and a comfortable atmosphere all over the restaurant. what makes our experience worthwhile is the attentiveness and skills of the server that was responsible for our table. his name was Marvin and he was outstanding. me and my friends will certainly go back to that place

I've given District 2 several chances as a restaurant since it opened. I did the same for Alliance Tavern. My understanding is it's the same owners for both; when Alliance didn't work, they retooled it as District 2. Either way, the same problems have NOT been solved. The first time, the pretzel sticks were greasy and recently-defrosted. Entrees were disappointing. Most of all, the service and wait for food were definitely sub-par. It was nearly a 2 hour+ wait for salad/burger/basic grub. The manager or owner did comp us a free drink at the end of the nite for our massively long wait, apologizing and saying the kitchen is physically very small and the staff was still new and getting used to everything. That made me relax a little about the bummer of a meal and feel ok enough to try it again later. Sadly, it did not improve the next time my friend and I went out on a limb and tried it again this December. Waiter did not know how to serve a bottle of wine. It came unopened to our table and we were like 'umm, we don't have a corkscrew...' I was willing to roll with that but then when the wine came back (from the bar - was it our bottle?) already opened, I had to stop the waiter from leaving the table immediately to at least let me try it and make sure it was ok. He didn't pour it. I'm fine w/new or inexperienced waiters, but they at least need to seem like they want to learn or service you better. We waited an hour for mac and cheese an a vegetarian burger. The waiter asked us after about an hour if we 'wanted any food.' Hmmm -- We said yes, the food we'd ordered earlier, and went over the order with him again bc he didn't remember what we'd gotten. I don't think the ticket was put it when we ordered at all, because the specifics of what we ordered didn't come out. If you have a brain freeze, at least come out and give us an update...we didn't see him again for 5-10 mins. I will say, the fries were good. District 2 has A LOT of competition with 2 Amys, Cactus Cantina, Cafe Deluxe, and even the sushi place in the neighborhood. This is my neighborhood and I want to support new-ish businesses, but they just keep falling down at District 2. I really want to give this place a chance but feel they are failing miserably with customer service and staff and not learning from customers' bad experiences. If the kitchen is small, make this place a bar with no menu items, and at least serve the drinks right!!
