    Great food, Great restaurant

I love this restaurant. It serves consistently excellent food at prices reasonable for the quality. Service is generally great, when one makes allowances for busy evenings, etc.

If you're an aging yuppee, maybe

The Evening Star is mediocre: it's got some interesting dishes but is crowded and the atmosphere is not improved by a clientele of gentrified Del Ray types who are advertising their own self-importance yep, cheek by jowl and ear to ear. I went there several times, hoping things would improve. Prices are not reasonable. As for a wine list, they're helped along by the wine and cheese shop alongside in fact, it'd be better to go there for crackers, stilton, an olive tapanade, and a good bottle of wine and skip entirely the charade of comfort at The Evening Star.

How can you not like this place?

I've dined at the Evening Star many times and have always been amazed at the high quality food that comes out of this kitchen at prices much lower than any place downtown! Service has generally been consistently solid from friendly people that seem to really care about whether you're enjoying yourself or not. Side note: There have been times when I've gotten a server that seems to be a little off, but I don't let it bother me. I'm there to enjoy my food and the environment created by the restaurant as well as my dining companions so that's what I do! Besides, it saves me some tip money! (I can't STAND people who punish the restaurant owners by saying they won't go back because of bad service ONE TIME. It's not fair to the small business owners.)

    Great, except for questionable service

Evening Star is a great neighborhood restaurant. The food is delicious. However, there is one waiter that does not provide the standard of servive of the restaurant of the staff.

Great Place, Great Food, Funky Decor

I have visited the Evening Star many times in the past, but my most recent visit reminded me of why I love this place so much. I had the Seared Tuna and my wife had the Pork. Both dishes were amazing in flavor and were great values at the prices we were charged. The server we had was super-friendly and kept checking on us at the right intervals. She wasn't intrusive but always was available if we needed anything. The wine list is unbelievable! I think there's literally 1,000 bottles to choose from! It does get kind of loud in there sometimes, because it's such a small place. I guess that's the only negative we've ever felt about "The Star". If you haven't been before, it's definitely worth a trip!

Unfriendly wait staff and overrated food

I was unimpressed with the meal at this restaurant. The waiter must have been having a bad night because he was unfriendly and very slow. When our food arrived, it was cool. I ordered the pork medium and it came well done (even burned). My husband had the salmon, which he liked, but again it wasn't warm. The wine selection is great, but I will not be returning to this restaurant.
