Yes, the new location is more chef's table than showplace, but Morou's dishes are still wonderfully inventive and of impeccable quality. The value for money is insane here. The duck with golden date flan/spicy mole/Brussels sprouts would be a star on the tasting menu of any of NY's top ten. The tapioca risotto they paired with the scallop was unforgettable--how often do you pray for that? The menu could be edited down--the gnudi could go, the lobster is great but not the elegant vanilla dish of the old location--but maybe the kitchen wanted to keep things percolating. I notice that once-beloved FA was excluded from DC's top 100. This can only be because of the surrounds, because the food is just as amazing. Tsk. You know what happens to ungrateful children? They lose their toys.
