    Great food

Almost didn't review because we're local and don't want it crowded. Top notch food, well served in a quiet relaxed appealing atmosphere. We get the chicken and lamb kabob with sides of spinach. We love kabob and my wife is from Middle East and has eaten a lot. None better, and very inexpensive for the qualify.

Sugary, inauthentic and overpriced as well!

This is the poorest Afghan restaurant I have ever eaten at, and, as an Afghan, I have eaten at numerous restaurants in the States and overseas. Everything has had lots of sugar added, presumably to please ignorant customers the same way that Chinese restaurants that never attract the native Chinese make all their dishes sweet for foreign customers who know no better. To add insult to injury it was so overpriced (main course kebabs over $20) and for such a basically furnished and atmosphere-lacking place. The sweetness is also designed to make you thirsty, and they try to push you towards their even more overpriced drink menu ($10 for glass of house wine)-- they don't even have Afghan drinks and explained to me that "not enough customers ask for it". Well it's obvious why -- Afghans would never come near this place unless they happen to be passing through and try it by mistake!

    Delicious!

After reading several reviews in the Washingtonian, I had to give this place a try. The servers are very helpful when recommending dishes and the food is excellent! Among four people we had the mantu (meat filled dumplings), bulanee (beef filled turnovers), kabob-e-murgh (chicken kabob), badamjan goushti (lamb with spinach and garlic) sasbi chalow (lamb with eggplant), and kabu (sauteed pumpkin). No one was disappointed (except for one person, who claimed he was still hungry but usually eats enough for 3 people). The servings were adequate, the flavors were incredible, and the service was outstanding! Highly recommended and I plan to return many more times!
