Best bakery in the dc area

I am a regular customer at Hollin Hall Pastry Shop and have never had a bad pastry or cake. I've tried many bakeries over the years and this place is by far the best - I highly recommend it. The staff is friendly and courteous, the atmosphere is that of a part of a community not like going to starbucks where noone will talk to you. It's great!

    Save your Money!

Hollin Hall Pastry Shop is a rip off! Don't go there please... you are paying top dollar for subpar items. Its not worth it at all. You might as well make your own desserts at home.

Birthday Cake not worth the price

I called them to make a birthday cake for my wife's birthday. First, they put me on hold for about 5 minutes. When asked if they could make a marble cake, they said no. Finally I convinced them to make 1 layer chocolate and 1 layer vanilla (why they couldnt make a marble cake was beyond me). When I went to pick it up, I had to wait in line for 5-10 minutes (which is typical for this place - not because it's too crowded, but because the service is terrible). $30 later, we had a beautiful looking cake, but the "Happy" in Happy Birthday ended right there. The buttercream frosting tasted like Crisco (yuck!), and the cake tasted sour/stale/old (though they claimed that they baked it overnight the day before I picked it up). All in all, definitely not worth the price, not worth the hassel. Go to the Safeway next door - cheaper and better!
