    Fine Italian Dining

    I don't understand the negative reviews at all. This is a wonderful restaurant. The atmosphere is cozy. The food is excellent and the service was very professional.

    Service was great--food-- not so great

    I ate at Il Ricchi tonight and was excited to dine at this top rated restaurant. Let me start with the good news- the service was spot on and the bread basket was yummy with tomato topped focaccia. But the rest of the meal--Oh my, was I disappointed! I ordered the Shrimp Speidini, one of the items that I had heard was their specialty. The dish was unappetizing at every turn, bland, under seasoned shrimp (which are described as "colossal" on the menu-- this means they should have been impressively large, usually 6-8 shrimp per pound). Instead, the three shrimp in the dish were no where near this size, had no evidence of being grilled and lacked the succulence of well prepared colossal shrimp. They were accompanied by a few slices of grilled onion and pepper, and two side dishes that were inedible--the first was a rectangle of deep fried polenta that was so greasy and hard, that it was difficult to cut, so I gave up. The other side was grey, overcooked broccoli. I almost cried--the dish was $36--so $12 for each shrimp. I can't believe the chef let this dish go out of the kitchen.

    Huge disappointment

    We went to iRicci to celebrate my son's birthday. He and his girlfriend had been there before and had a wonderful experience. This time was the opposite. He ordered a veal chop medium rare. Half of it was medium, the other side of the bone was well done. After he gave it back to the server to be redone, they left him sitting there with nothing in front of him while everyone else had their entrees. After a few minutes, the floor manager came back with the same chop, plopped it down in front of him, and proceeded to give him a lesson on meat temperature, claiming that "medium rare" is relative to each person's taste. As it happens, my son spent many years managing a fine dining restaurant and knows exactly what medium rare is. The manager's behavior was unprofessional and offensive. We were so upset, we took the entree to go and left. In addition, my son's girlfriend ordered a steak entree that arrived with a different preparation than what was described on the menu. After all that, the restaurant didn't even offer to comp any part of our meal. I felt sorry for the waiter, who was excellent.

    don't waste your time

    I wasn't expecting great, I was just expecting a very nice meal, with tasty dishes. Even the bread put on the table was bland - no nice crust, not warm, just totally boring, cold bread. Each dish we ordered, with the excception of the dessert, was tasteless and poorly prepared. The calamari appetizer had no flavor, and when I asked for a "red sauce", a bland pink sauce came. A breaded veal chop, which should be a classic dish in an Italian restaurant was uninteresting - the breading was falling off the chop, there was not even a light sauce on the veal and it was flavorless. It was listed as served with arugula and plum tomatoes. There were a few pieces of diced tomatoes in the salad, maybe a quarter of a tiny tomato. Even my glass of pinot grigio wine, which was $16 a glass was not good. This restaurant is a TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT. Don't even bother going there.

    Very nice meal

    We were quite pleased with the quality of our meal and service. The appetizers were very good: a yummy cold tomato and basil soup and a fabulous dish of mixed mushrooms in a succulent sauce of olive oil, garlic, and dark herbs. The pasta course (we shared) was just right: perfectly cooked pockets of veal and sauce. My rockfish was excellent. The only disappointment (and the reason for a 3 rather than 4 star rating) was my wife's mussels, which were OK but bland. Our waiter was quite helpful and not at all "pushy," as some diners noted. Overall, a fairly expensive restaurant which delivers high quality favorite Itlaian meals with style.

    bad reviews, great place

    My boyfriends mother made us a reservation here. I was very nervous having looked up reviews before going. But the place was great! The appetizer and first course of pasta were so so. But the service was great and recommended their best main courses. We all loved our food. My lamb was simply prepared but absolutely the best I ever had. It is a bit of a tourist trap, but great food.

    Went here with high hopes. Restaurant itself is beautiful - like a Tuscan villa. Service was intrusive. The waiter hovererd over our table. I put the last forkful of food in my mouth - still chewing - and he wisked the plate away. I ordered a half order of tortellini and was charged $18.95. My companion ordered the chicken dish. Waiter said it would take one hour to cook, but worth the wait. After one hour, it came to the table dried out. Very disappointed. For the prices charged, food should have been much better
