We ate in the bar. Cigar smoking allowed in the bar not great, our fault for not moving to the dining area. Beef carpaccio good but not great, dressing used under the beef over powers the excellent flavor of the meat and the capers on top roasted not so good, beef really good. Crab bisque soup tasty, but a little too salty, just a little. Filet mignon very good - expensive. Excellent cocktails. Floors in dining area tiled and it tends to make everything kind of noisy and echoey. Excellent service in the bar. Host staff/possibly manager (host area) also offered excellent service.

We've been to the McLean restaurant several times. Each time either the service was truly poor (slow and unresponsive) or when the service was good the food arrived cold and not cooked to order. On our last visit, when we asked to speak to the manager upon our exit we waited over 5 minutes and he did not come. We left. I later called and was on hold for 5 minutes and then told he was busy. Needless to say this is one restaurant we will never go back to. If done right, this would be a great place. But it is not done right. Oh, one other item, the way the bar is set up with smoking allowed in VA, you have to walk through a dense fog of smoke to get to your table where you can often still smell the smoke.

J gilberts is my restaurant of choice for more than just their fantastic USDA prime Certified black angus beef. It has great ambience as well as super friendly service. The best part of the restaurant is, if you are lucky enough to get a table near the service area, you can hear the servers talk about eachother as well as dirty jokes. Fantastic fun.
