leave home, forget the passport
This week, I had plan to visit my usual dinner spot, lucky I did. I dined at the La Loma restaurant on capitol hill, located near the Stanton Park. I found little to not like! It was busy and I expected a wait, I was proved wrong from the chips and salsa graced the table fast, my order was taken quickly and the food arrived promptly. Here was the surprise.......it was good, it was hot and the bill let me get home via cab. The best tho was the attenative staff, everyone was helpfull and polite . It was fun and I got a feel of being out of the box of the usual exprected franchise menu we have come to exprect. I had some requests which were honored by the kitchen..... what more can i say... well it was good, muy bien, Senors

Out-of-town Mexican food attack
Being from Arizona, La Loma is the place to go when you're visiting DC and that urge for Mexican food engulfs you. Food and venue very worthwhile.

Works for me!
I've eaten here three times and was pleased with the food, atmosphere, price, and service each time. I love Mexican food and this is one of my favorite places in the DC area. Others I enjoy are Las Placitas (8th ST, SE) and Cactus Cantina (Wisconsin Ave, NW)

Not so great for Capitol Hill
This is a pretty good restaurant, compared to the others on the Mass. I'm never really happy with the food at La Loma. The really nice thing about the restaurant is they have a lot of outdoor seating. The food is outdone by all of the Mexican restaurants on Pennsylvania SE in Capitol Hill and those on 8th Street SE. If you're looking to eat on Capitol Hill you'll have to go a little bit south to get anything good.

Pretty Great for Capitol Hill
Since apparently where your from matters when reviewing restaurants, I'm from Texas and also know good Mexican food. The reviewer from California that was so harsh on this place needs to realize that there are multiple types of Mexican food. This place is really good. It's closer to traditional Mexican food than Tex-Mex or food with Baja influences. The food is well priced for Capitol Hill, where good cheap food is very hard to come by. La Loma is especially great for lunch, when plates are generally 2 dollars cheaper. The atmosphere is great the service is wonderful. If only they had happy hour specials on their fabulous margaritas!

Good food
If you aren't a food snob, La Lomita is a nice place to go with good food and good service.

Disappointing Mexican food
Not just terrible mexican food, just plain bad food. They can't even get the basics right. Chips and salsa, steak tacos, chicken tamales, cheese enchiladas...you name it, it is all bad. I grew up in LA and know what good Mexican food should taste like. This is NOT it. Unless you want margaritas on a great patio, avoid this place like the plague. The only sit-down place with decent Mexican-ish food on the hill is Las Placitas on 8th (actually El Salvadoran). T-Coast, Burrito Bros, La Lomita (I and II), and La Loma are all wastes of your time.
