The food is generally good, the service is lousy
So, we opted to go to Leoplod's for Mother's Day, as our son gets up at 6AMish. This meant someplace opening at 8AM would work well. We were the first people there and were seated immediately. After a few minutes the one waitress that seemed to be running the Kafe, come over and asked us for out drink order. When that came back, we ordered our food. Now, we have a 2 year old with us. A very polite and well manner little boy, but he does have a time limit for sitting in one place. We were the only people at the time of placing out order, and it was a simple order. By the time we left, the place was busy. It took them about 45 minutes to bring out our food, and entire other groups were being fed before us; they clearly lost out order. The waitress, who was almost single handedly running the place, eventually had two women join her. However, it's pretty clear they have service issues. I think the biggest for me is that she knew that I knew the order had been hosed somehow, but didn't have the courtesy to tell us. (Or to top off out drinks...)

Poor service!
Me and a friend stopped by on Saturday, Feb. 2 in the afternoon for a quick bite to eat. When we entered the lobby area there were 2 parties ahead of us - a single diner and another party of two - the hostess told us it would be a 20 minute wait, not too bad. She never offered us a table in the lounge area but immediately made the offer to the party after us, they were a party of 5 with 3 small children. As we patiently waited, the lobby quickly filled and the hostess took the names down. All the parties after us were offered a table at the lounge and were seated immediately. At first they were larger parties, so we didn't see a problem with them being seated before us. Then tables of two were seated prior to us; even though their names were on the list below us. Out of the two tables before us only the single diner had not been seated. I graciously questioned the hostess regarding our table, her reply "your name is two down from being called". At that time she stepped away to seat another party and I viewed the waiting list, all the people being seated had obviously come in after us. The single diner and other groups were also glancing at the list. Forty five minutes passed and we had not been seated nor offered a table in the lounge but other tables of two and larger were quickly escorted inside the restaurant. I could overhear others, whom were not offered a seat in the lounge, questioning the hostess as to when would they be seated. I couldn't hear her response as the lobby was completely filled with awaiting tables. We continued to wait patiently but then a party of 2 came in and the hostess again, offered to seat them immediately if they sat at the lounge. We were horrified and decided to leave the restaurant. I've dined at places where service was subpar but the food made up for the less than stellar service. Kafe Leopolds is not one of those establishments and I cannot fathom why diners tolerate it. I've dined here before and noticed others experiencing different degrees of poor service. Their menu is average, nothing spectacular and there are other comparable bakeries in the area. One word to sum up our experience at Kafe Leopold - Disappointing!

Mustard Chicken Like No Other
What may appear as another coffee shop is an understatement. The roasted chicken with mustard sauce entree totally blew me away!! I never knew mustard could be the centerpiece for sauce. Excellent dish. Will definitely order again. Service was equally great and attentive. Although dessert was on the pricier side and a little too sweet for my likings, I enjoyed the experience at Leopold's all in all. A definite go-back-to some time in the future... !

A Londoner's view
We were delighted to find a restaurant that served deliciously fresh salads and exquisite pastries along with good wines...Darjeeling tea, too. The portions Old Scholl European sizes, just right for the broling heat of Washington. We ate here rather a lot. Always excellent.
