Unpretenious and fiery
The restaurant is on a side street. The interior is clean, pristine, and not that gaudy. Service is great. The food? If you want it spiced up, it's there (way up there with the #13 appetizer at an old Thai restaurant in Arlington it was a right of passage). Or toned down. A good selection of dishes, although the Burmese offerings seem to be in the minority. A wonderful spot for a group luncheon or dinner, and you'll be pleased at the price and portions.

Most restaurants in the DC area shy away from spices, despite my reassurances when I order that I can handle heat. Mandalay responds to my pleas. Moreover, the restaurant offers amazingly flavorful salads with fresh ingredients. Thumbs up.
