Restaurant week disappointment
Unfortunately, new heights seems to be one of those places that prefers to use DC restaurant week as a one-off cash cow rather than a true opportunity to showcase their fare and value. We weren't even given the option of ordering from the regular menu at regular prices if we desired. The appetizers were decent, but uninspiring, and both main courses were disappointing. The ragout of pork was made with half-gristled, fatty chunks of meat over "garlicky potatoes" which were so watery and unflavorful they became dissolved in the overly tart salsa verde. The salmon was moderately better, though teetered the line between medium rare and undercooked. The chocolate cinnamon tart was rich and flavorful, while the saffron panna cotta was watery and bland. There's no doubt that the restaurant has potential to deliver fine cuisine demonstrated by the creativity of the dishes and the reviews elsewhere proffered, however, they failed to win over this customer.
