Great food by a great chef
For a wonderful dinner based on exquisite food and respect for freshness, quality, and skill, one can not do better than Palena. Frank Ruta is a master chef in the classic French tradition. He is also amazingly inventive, combining seasonal ingredients in an unusual mix- and match style that is unique. The service is gracious and responsive without being overbearing. The room is small, but not overcrowded. The cost is quite reasonable considering the quality and distinction - I would expect twice as high in NYC. The wine list is unusual, but without depth- the cellar is probably small without the ability to stock away wines for aging. I recommend this restaurant to any foodie, anyone wanting to celebrate, and any one needing a darned good meal.

You do get want you pay for!
Very tasty food! I had a sidecar as a pre dinner drink, best thing ever! But just a warning, the dining room is a pre-fixed menu and it is not cheap at all. The front room is much for casual and cheaper is like an upscale bar. The service was great, the waiter didn't make me feel like an idiot when I used the wrong fork and was always present but never intrusive. If you've been to Obelisk, you will love this play. The dining room has the same vibe. And apparently big wigs from the hill also come and eat in the dining room.
