A wee bit of everything
Pat Troy's has everything you need if you are traveling in the DC/Alexandria area and you need a hint of home. The staff is fantastic: friendly and inviting or aloof and efficient, depending on your needs. The food is great, whether you feel like a cheeseburger, fish, steak, chicken or salad. Live entertainment ranges from Irish song, to harp, to religious debate or political discourse. The bar and lower restaurant are intimate and cozy while the patio and upper restaurant are better lit and allow for self-reflection or people watching. Definitely worth stopping more than once.
