I've been eating at The Pines since the early 80's. Marco is a hands-on owner who has even personally prepared me Italian specialties on on the menu. I've eaten everything on the menu + specials at least 3 times and all have been superb, delicious, fresh, authentic Italian cuisine. Coming from an Italian from Boston's North End - is a real kudo. Marco buys only the best quality ingredients for his restaurant. My fav's - white pizza, calamari, sweet sausage...

We absolutely love this place. Soft shell crabs, flounder and veal parm are perennial favorites. Our favorite waiters always know what we like and we seldom need to tell then what we would want. Love the Pines!

What a Gem. Most DC places are overpriced and not very good. Pines of Rome has restored my faith in DC restaurants. Good Italian food without breaking the bank. Pizza is best in DC area.

We thought this would be an authentic italian rest. we were sorely disappointed- the salad was very boring- the pasta was cooked ok-but alfredo tasted like flour-no spices in the marinara-no garlic anywhere- our waiter did not give specials-will not be returning

Not everything here is great (avoid the flounder), but the eggplant parmigiana and the cheese ravioli with marinara set the standard for excellence. The pizza isn't fancy, but it's very good--I recommend getting it with mushrooms. The regular salad is quite dull, but the family-sized salad is more interesting, with roasted peppers and things.

PoR has been a family staple ever since I can remember. The white pizza, spaghetti carbonara, fettucini alfredo, and pasta fagiole are the best I have ever had. I can't order them at other restaurants because I know they won't be as good. My parents took me there, I take my daughter there, and I hope more generations will get to enjoy PoR.

My family is from Bari, Italy. I know Marco (the PoR owner) is also from there - we've discussed it numerous times over a glass of Pasano wine. His Italian food is authentically done; pinwheel sweet sausage to die for from NYC; sepia gilled - perfect ; the calamari light and tasty; fried schmelts numerous and lightly battered; his pizza(s) ALL are tremendous - real Napolitan-style - his ossobucco wonderful everything with great durum-semolina pasta cooked al dente. Over 1000 visits in 28 years and never disappointed. Marco you're the best in metro DC.
