    Overpriced and Unappealing

I ordered from Sala Thai U Street earlier this evening and was extremely disappointed. After spending $25+ on Sala Thai Duck and spring rolls, I received the order an hour and fifteen minutes later. My apartment is only two blocks from the U Street location and had I known it was going to take that long, I would have placed a carry-out order and walked down myself. In addition, the duck was far from "crispy" as described on the menu and was mostly just fatty, inedible tissue. The spring rolls were also a disappointment - for a small order of four minuscule, tasteless spring rolls, the price is outrageous. I'm sure I could do better buying a frozen bag of spring rolls from the local grocery store and microwaving them. Save your money or stick to the sushi bar - their sushi is mediocre, but edible at least.

price paid does not equal portion

Sala Thai is a wonderful place to go eat great Thai food and has a wonderful atmosphere. But the price as well as the tiny compacted seating area take away from the experience. Overall the food was great, but the amount you paid and the size of the portion aren't equal.

Sala Thai is worth a trip from N.C.

When we found Sala Thai on Dupont Circle about 5 years ago, we loved it. We made a special trip to D.C. from North Carolina around eating at Sala Thai about 4 years ago. Now the Dupont Circle venue has closed so we trekked over to the U Street location over the July 4th weekend and the food was just as scrumptious. The appetizers, Mee Krob and Pla Goong, are delicious. The menu offers many standard Thai dishes, but also has quite unique and mouth watering fare that you won't find at run-of-the-mill Thai restaurants. The dishes are delectable, the Mai Tai's are made with fresh juices and quite strong. We will soon make another trip to DC (8 hour drive) so that we can eat at Sala Thai once again!

    Not that great really

So, they're nearby and deliver, but I have to say it's not that great. The food isn't bad, but is a little greasy and the portions are small for the price. Eh.

    a great thai-me

We decided spur of the moment to grab dinner here an it ended up being one of my favorite meals of our trip! The food was excellent and the service was excellent. It was a nice atmosphere-very nice but relaxed.
