pros & cons
Atmosphere is that of a small authentic old-school diner, not that of a large highway restaurant dressed up to play the part. Food is wholesome, cheap and simply prepared. Portions can be quite small compared to other restaurants, which can be a pro or a con I suppose. The baked potato is only a half potato. An order of fries is no bigger than a Wendy's small. The sandwich I ordered had maybe two ounces of meat, though I believe they are usually larger. Dessert came with real whipped cream.

A Bethesda Institution
I remember the first time I went to Tastee Dinner close to 25 years ago as a kid. It hasn't seemed to change since. It is very genuine which is almost impossible to find in this world and especially the DC area. It is perfect because of, not in spite of the fact that the waitress might be a little rude and it might be a little loud. It is one of my favorite places to go eat in the DC area after 29 years here.

Your typical greasy spoon
Tastee Diner is a nice change from all of the commercial and/or "1st class" restaurants in Bethesda. It's not the best food, but at least you're not going to pay $20 for a burger and fries and don't have people looking at how you are dressed. The place is normal and so are the people. Don't expect any frills here though either.
