Uncle Julio's Rio Grande Cafe
Posted by unhappy customer on 04/01/2013
The only good thing on the table was the con queso. The waiter was invisible most of the time, the fajitas were tough, the manager when confronted was less than friendly. Don't bother going ... there are far better places & food.

Went to Uncle Julio's 1/27/13 at the Bethesda Maryland Location. I have been there once or twice before but only for carry out. I order my food which was decent but cold, and a reverse swirl. Halfway into my swirl I felt a pinch on my lips and realised that the mug that I was drinking out of was split and my lip was cut. I told the waiter who went to grab a manager, then the manager on duty, came over about 10 min later and seemed annoyed and told me that he would comp my drink, and he brought me out another one, which was the wrong drink, the reverse swirl has more liquor in it, I informed him of this and he said he would fix it. He returned 15 mins later with a shot class and set it on my table and stormed away. I called in the morning and spoke the the General Manager and he said he would pass my information along to coroprate, who ended up calling me and said they would do nothing for me. I called the manager back and he asked if there was anything else that he could do since it was his store and before I left reviews, I wanted to give him the chance to fix it, he said do what I want.

There is nowhere in the DC area that brings the food Tex Mex style like Uncle Julio's Rio Grande. The manager Harper Caron has a personal touch with the patrons that makes this a restaurant my family will be loyal to forever.

I am from Texas, actually lived all over Texas including the Tex-Mex boarder, lived in other SW states, and have lived and traveled extensively in Mexico. One of the only good things from Texas is the food. I tried the Rio Grand Café twenty years ago and have continued to try other Mexican food restaurants. While their food is not true Mexican food...and doesn’t claim to be….it has the best Tex-Mex hot sauce, tacos, and enchiladas in this area. I will not guarantee other food as the best but think it is as good as any other in the DC area. Any where better I would like to know.
